How does the VM sandbox work?

Each candidate workspace runs in a dedicated, isolated container with constrained outbound network access. Tests and build steps run entirely inside the sandbox container. Your organizational API keys and hidden grading suites are stored securely outside the VM and injected only during evaluation runs.

What programming languages, runtimes, and databases are supported?

Eyrie supports TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Go, Java, Rust, C++, C#, Ruby, PHP, and SQL out of the box with language servers (LSP), autocompletion, syntax diagnostics, and terminal access. Sandbox environments also support Postgres, MySQL, and Redis instances for full-stack service debugging.

Can we interview on our company’s own proprietary codebases?

Yes. On Team, Business, and Enterprise plans, you can connect private git repositories or upload curated template repositories. Eyrie provisions a fresh branch for each interview so candidates test real engineering skills on realistic code.

How do system design whiteboard interviews work?

Our whiteboard is a collaborative canvas powered by Excalidraw with live multi-cursor synchronization. It includes architecture component stencils (gateways, caches, databases, message brokers) and an adjacent markdown requirements pad. Interviewers can freeze the canvas into read-only mode at any point to lead a structured debrief.

Can candidates use AI during their interview?

Only if the interviewer permits it. Every interview starts with an explicit AI mode chosen by the organizer: Off (network-enforced isolation), Ask-Only (candidate can query explanations but agent file-writes are disabled), or Full Agent (CLI coding agent inside the VM). The interviewer can modify this setting live during the call, and the candidate is immediately notified.

Does Eyrie use AI to score or reject candidates?

No. Eyrie does not generate automated numeric hire scores or algorithmic rejection verdicts. Interviewers evaluate candidates using structured rubrics. Optional AI summaries are strictly labeled as advisory synthesis grounded in session evidence, and human panel members make every decision.

What is the token budget policy?

Each session has a configurable token budget (e.g. 100,000 tokens). The interviewer and candidate can see a live token meter in the room header. When the budget is depleted, the LLM gateway gently pauses further automated suggestions, allowing the interviewer to evaluate unassisted coding or top up the allowance.

Do you train AI models on our code or candidate sessions?

Never. Eyrie has zero-data-retention agreements with our enterprise LLM inference providers. Your company source code, candidate prompts, and test suite code are never used to train public or proprietary models.

Eyrie monitors advisory signals—such as large code clipboard pastes, leaving the browser window, or devtools inspection—and logs them chronologically on the session timeline for interviewer context. We believe in transparency rather than invasive spyware.

What is Strict Fullscreen Mode?

For high-stakes or async evaluations, organizers can enable Strict Mode. This prompts the candidate to enter fullscreen mode. If the candidate exits fullscreen or switches tabs, a grace period begins. If they do not return, the workspace locks until an interviewer remotely unlocks it or the candidate acknowledges the notification.

Do candidates have to download software or pay anything?

No. Eyrie is 100% browser-based. Candidates join with a secure magic link, complete a 15-second device and camera check in their browser, and start immediately. Candidates never pay a cent.

What happens if a candidate loses internet connectivity?

Accepted Answer

All code edits in the workspace are saved continuously to local state and the container filesystem. If the connection drops, Eyrie reconnects automatically and pauses the session countdown so the candidate does not lose time.

What is blind panel grading?

To prevent anchoring bias, interviewers submit their scorecard evaluations independently. Peer scorecards, recommendations, and AI synthesis remain locked until each panelist submits their own review. Once submitted, all evaluations unlock simultaneously in the Debrief view.

What does Session Replay capture?

Replay captures synchronized timeline playback of keystrokes, terminal commands, test suite executions, AI prompt iterations, and audio/video recordings. Interviewers can scrub to specific timestamps or jump to bookmarked code snippets during panel debriefs.

Yes. Eyrie connects directly with Greenhouse, Lever, and Ashby via secure webhooks and REST APIs. Candidate scorecard summaries, recommendations, and replay links sync back to the candidate application profile automatically.

What counts as a session?

Accepted Answer

A session is one candidate in one interview room. You can invite multiple interviewers, shadow interviewers, and hiring managers to observe or participate at no additional cost. We bill by sessions conducted, not user seats.

What happens if we need more sessions in a busy hiring cycle?

Accepted Answer

You can upgrade your monthly plan or enable automatic on-demand session top-ups at a flat rate. Unused session allowances on annual contracts roll over throughout the contract year.

Do you offer SOC 2 Type II reports and DPAs?

Yes. Our SOC 2 Type II compliance report, GDPR Data Processing Agreement, and HIPAA Business Associate Agreements are available upon request for Business and Enterprise customers.
